Authenticator app not working

When I open the app, it shows me a six-digit number but nowhere to enter the two-digit number. I’ve realised that if I click on ‘can’t use authenticator at the moment’ on the webpage (under the two-digit number) and keep clicking through, eventually, it asks me to type in the six-digit code from the app. This works.
